When it comes to packing a rug for a move to a new home, this is a task that doesn’t sound like it would be too complicated.; however, there are specific steps that should always be followed if you wish for your rug to be completely flawless during the trip from your old home to your new one.

Here are the steps that you should follow to help ensure a smooth trip for your rug.

First make sure that your rug is cleaned. Take the time to vacuum it in roder to remove any dust that may be in the fibers of the rug. If your rug is really dirty, the best option is for you to have it professionally cleaned. Never move a dirty rug.

Figure out the direction of the nap of the rug. In order to do this, take the palm of your hand and rub it over the rug’s surface. You will notice resistance in one direction and smoothness in another.

Turn your rug upside down so that the pile faces the floor. This will prevent extra pressure from being put on the backing of the rug.

Begin rolling the rug, making sure that you do so against the direction of the nap. Do this slowly in order to create a tight cylinder.

Once the rug has been rolled, tie it up tightly using two pieces of either string or twine. Use one string at each end of the rug in order to properly secure it and prevent it from unfolding.

Wrap the rug in either hard brown paper or Kraft paper. Once you wrap it, tape it up.
