When it comes to moving to a new home, chances are you won’t want to take every single little thing with you to your new residence. At the same time, you also don’t want to toss everything out either. With that being said, it’s important to do away with some of the things that you know you’ll no longer have any real use for.

Here are three things to consider getting rid of when the time comes to move to your new home.

Worn-out Items

First and foremost, consider getting rid of anything that is either old or used, such as clothing that no longer fits you, towels and/or sheets that are old and worn, outdated electronics, expired food, and other similar items. These obviously will not be needed in your home, and clearly they will only take up some much needed room that could otherwise be used for more important things during the journey there.

Multiples

Another important thing to consider getting rid of when moving to your new home involves items that you may have too much of. For instance, this could be office supplies, bedding, hair clips, tools, and even dishes and other types of cookware. Consider giving some of these items to friends and family members, or even taking some to your local thrift shop to donate to local families in need.

Unused Items

Another option to consider getting rid of would be things that you may not have seen in years, yet would also not actually be a good enough fit for your new home. For instance, things that are broken, old magazines, VHS tapes, old holiday decorations that you never use anymore, and games or toys that your children may have outgrown. A good rule of thumb is if you haven’t touch it in a year, it’s time to get rid of it.
