When it comes to the lower back, this area of the body tends to be more prone to injury whenever you perform the following tasks:

*Lifting a heavy object

*Twisting

*Making a sudden movement

Any of these issues can cause ligaments and/or muscles to stretch, tear, or strain. A strain may sound simple; however, if it occurs in the lower back, a strain can be severe.

Here are three methods in which you can keep your lower back protected.

Lift All Heavy Objects Correctly

Even if you’re strong and young in age, it’s still extremely possible to injure your lower back by incorrectly lifting heavy objects. Always lift using your knees instead of your back.

Ensure Your Posture is Correct

When you have a poor posture, it can place a lot of pressure on your back to the point that any degenerated discs can end up becoming more painful. You can prevent this by setting a timer and sitting in an ergonomic chair while you work throughout the day. If you have a job that requires you to sit down for most of the day, be sure to get up and walk around every hour.

Stretch Out Your Hamstrings

Tight hamstrings are a little-known cause of pain in your lower back. You can work to decrease the pressure on your pelvis and throughout your lower back by taking on some simple hamstring stretching exercises. However, it’s a good idea to speak with your doctor first prior to engaging in these exercises.
